Industrial finishing of windows is a time-consuming process using conventional methods. Venjakob has developed a system concept for the Norwegian company Gilje Tre that allows the coating process to be rigorously shortened - without compromising on quality. Costs are saved and production flexibility is increased. The system amortises within a very short time.
Until now, the coating of window frames at Norwegian window manufacturer Gilje Tre was done manually. The individual parts were impregnated in the first step, then the frames and sashes were pressed, placed on an overhead conveyor and primed and spray-painted by hand. The drying times on the overhead conveyor alone took several hours. The customer wanted complete automation of the coating process with the aim of being able to produce more windows in less time and with consistently high quality.
Technology developed close to the customer
Components, stairs, windows - Venjakob has been developing system concepts for the surface treatment of a wide range of components in industrial painting for decades. Existing technologies are further developed in line with customer requirements. This was also the case with Gilje Tre. A fully automatic coating system was designed for the use of modern water-based paints. The coating system is designed for maximum application efficiency, the fastest possible drying and maximum output in terms of the entire parts logistics.
Much shorter drying time than before
For the automatic coating process, each individual window part is fed directly from profiling into the coating lines. The individual parts are identified by the system using RFID technology and the preset programme is triggered. The components are impregnated, primed, dried, top-coated, dried, automatically turned and fed back into the process in a single pass - until the six-sided coating is complete. The components are then sent directly to the picking area, where the frames and sashes can be pressed.
The high-performance drying systems are responsible for most of the time savings. "One coating cycle takes around 12 minutes, which is 48 minutes for four paint jobs. Previously, around four to six hours were spent on the drying process. There is no faster way to industrially finish and produce windows," says Oliver Milde, Venjakob customer advisor. The automatic coating process therefore also simplifies the production of individual parts. "The short production times and greater flexibility have given the company a significant advantage in the market," says Oliver Milde.
